BMT has worked with the US Navy for over twenty years and is now its one-stop consulting service for all environmental and safety requirements. This issue of Focus looks at how BMT assists the Navy through a wide range of programmes such as marine mammal protection.

With increasing deepwater exploration developments in the Gulf of Mexico, BMT has undertaken the concept design of a 500,000-barrel shuttle tanker, which will be reliable, safe, environmentally friendly and economical to operate. With the world’s constant thirst for energy BMT also continues to remain at the forefront of efforts to design and maintain, better, stronger and more reliable pipelines which span continents and in some cases, oceans.

BMT has supported America’s Cup yacht design since 1990. For the 2003 event, BMT is once again part of the design team for Stars & Stripes. Focus also looks at how BMT has pioneered research to give ship designers and owners vital information on how humans react when evacuating from ships. This new software and testing facility can anaylse and predict the effectiveness of evacuation procedures.

In the offshore oil and gas market, BMT has been involved in monitoring and anaylsing how the winds, waves and currents can affect the stability of large spar platforms. Whilst The Salvage Association continues to assist both underwriters and owners in the recovery and safe repair of their property.
