It is with great sadness that we record the death of Dr Jack Birks. He died peacefully at home in Norfolk on 27th June. Jack Birks was BMT’s Life President, following his ten-year tenure as Chairman. Formerly a Managing Director of BP, Jack became Chairman of the privatised NMI Ltd in 1982 and was instrumental in creating NMI’s merger with BSRA that created BMT in 1985.
Throughout his retirement he continued his involvement in energy businesses serving on the boards of Gulf Indonesia Resources, North American Gas Investment Trust Plc, Midland & Scottish Resources Plc and Bellwether Exploration Company.
For BMT his influence was significant. David Goodrich (Chairman and CEO) relects:- "Jack will be remembered for his consistent and clear leadership of BMT from its beginning through to his retirement as Chairman in 1995, when he subsequently became Life President".
